The Truly Budget MTGO Format

Penny Dreadful (abbreviated to pd) is an incredibly budget format meant to be played on Magic Online. When you're done building and buying your deck, save it under the "freeform" format, then hop onto the "Just for Fun" lobby, select the deck, and put "Penny Dreadful" in the comments section. See you there!

The One Rule

In Penny Dreadful, any card on the 0.01 Tix list is legal to use in your deck. Every time a new set is released, a list of all 0.01 Tix cards is recorded and published here. This list remains valid until the next Standard set release.

Power Level

Penny Dreadful includes many powerful cards from Magic's history. Classics like Mother of Runes, Wildfire, Animate Dead, Frantic Search, Aetherling, and Treasure Cruise are available here.

The format self-regulates, as a deck that dominates the format will increase in price slightly and become illegal by the next rotation. There is currently no banlist, but one will be considered in the future if necessary.

Brewer's Paradise

In a format where the staples will cycle with every set release, brewers take center stage in a race to define the next meta. At less than 1 Tix per deck, no card is out of your budget!

Mechanics that weren't quite powerful enough to compete in Modern and Standard are now king in Penny Dreadful.
